Hey guys,
As some of you may have noticed the breast cancer designs I have on my Shop page or if you checked out my shop on cafepress.com. This is a topic that has circled me my whole life. It dug into my family when my mom had breast cancer at age of 40. Then my sister had her share at age 35, considered pretty young. Now, I am 22 and it is my responsibility to do annual screenings and I feel it is also my duty to encourage other females to do the same. I want all females of all ages to understand, learn, and accept the facts and statistics. It is said that 1 in every 3 women will develop breast cancer at some point in her life.

To do my share in helping women and support cancer research, I have been making T-shirt designs and other merchandise designs for breast cancer awareness. My mission is to increase awareness and knowledge about breast cancer, the importance of early detection and the support for survivors.
Now, I am stepping up a notch. I am on a mission to design a new T-shirts that raise awareness and donation.
Here is the deal, I will put up new designs on t-shirts, pins, stickers, cards, bags, and more available for purchase, then I will donate a large portion of profit to a chosen cancer research organization. I am hoping of raising $5,000. You can participate and help raise money for a national charitable organization who focuses on Breast Cancer health, education, and awareness. My mission will go on until the end of October, which is the national breast cancer awareness month. I am hoping to create at least 10 new designs by end of my mission.
Also, I am open to collaborations with other designers, so if you are one and want to help send me an e-mail.
Products will be available for sale as soon as I put up a new design. So keep checking my pages and my shop at cafepress.com
Together, we can spread the word and stop the spread of breast cancer.

I submitted my first two designs on Threadless. I entered the Hot CHip loves section. The idea is to make a design that uses glow in the dark ink. My entry is about monsters in the dark, monsters in the closet and under the bed. If you like my design, then vote for me.
Apparently, I need to get a good score to keep my designs in the running, if my scores are too low, my design will be kicked out. So, in order to get a good score, I need kind people like you to log in and score my design (prefer a high score). So,please show your support. Thank you and I appreciate it.

Entering in competitons, contests, and awards is a great way to introduce yourself to the industry and expose yourself as a designer. No one will know how great you are if they’ve never seen you or heard of you. Kinda like that riddle - if a tree falls in the woods but no one is there to hear it fall, did it really fall? Take advantage of these sources to promote yourself. You are a designer with skills and talent, you have something to sell. By entering contests, you are saying ” Here I am and I’ve got something to sell”.
While I was at school, in the middle of no where, competitions where the only way I had to reach out into the industry early on. The place where I went to school did not have internships near by or anything that would be considered experience. I researched competitions online and started applying whenever I had free time. By summer I won a merit from Portfolios.com ( a good site to review fellow designers’ works) and then a few months later, I won a gold in direct mail category from IDA ( International Design Awards). If you don’t win the first few, don’t fret, I won two out of eight or ten that I entered.
So, where do you find these contests?Well, I found some good sites that list current contests. My favorite is www.graphicdesignbasics.com ( it is up to date, you can search by industry, deadline, and month). Similar one is www.designtaxi.com ( they also list design events). Others I like are www.designboom.com and www.graphiccompetitions.com
Hope this helps out those who are interested in promoting themselves and their work. Don’t wait until you leave school to start.
